Did You Know?:

ACORNs where only Palm trees grow?

Okay, Now how is that possible? Where do ACORNS come from, on an isolated island thousands of miles from the nearest oaks? This explanation came from Bill Hildebrand of the CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation at www.seabeeinfo.org in answer to a question on SEABEE units attached to ACORNs. Thanks Bill.

"The ACORNs were standardized small Navy airbases. The best place for info on ACORN 14 is the Naval Historical Center. Check out their website at www.history.navy.mil. If you want to call them, start with 202-433-2210,

The Naval Construction Battalions weren't assigned to an ACORN, but they were sent in to build one. Once it was operational, they usually moved on and a CBMU was sent in to be the Public Works Dept and make sure the base stayed operational. The Historical Center should be able to tell you where ACORN 14 was located and probably who built it along with any CMBU assigned to operate the base."

Now you know! --- "Stormin' "
